Privacy policy

This policy covers the Tech Stack & SEO Inspector extension for Chrome ("the extension"), built and supported by Michael Costa, trading as White Hat Harbor ("we"). In short: the extension analyses pages on your computer, keeps what it saves on your computer, and sends nothing about your browsing to us or anyone else. The only network service it talks to is Polar, and only to check a Pro license key.

What the extension reads

Only when you click its toolbar icon, and only on that tab, the extension reads the page: its HTML, the text on it, the addresses of the scripts and other files it loaded, its cookies (as the page itself can see them), and the values of JavaScript variables that identify known technologies. It also requests the same page address once more, from the page, to read the server's response headers. All of this is processed in the extension's popup on your computer and discarded when the popup closes.

Cookie values are only compared against known patterns. They are never shown, saved or exported; a detected cookie is shown by its name.

What is stored, and where

Exports (CSV, JSON, Markdown) are files you download or text you copy; they go only where you save or paste them.

Payments and Polar

Pro is sold through Polar, which is the merchant of record: it runs checkout, takes payment and handles sales tax. When you buy Pro you give your email address and payment details to Polar directly, on its pages, under its own terms (Polar privacy policy). Polar emails you a license key. When you enter the key, and when the popup opens after that, the extension sends the key, and nothing else, to Polar to check it is still active. We receive your email address, plan and payment status from Polar, to support you and handle refunds. We never see your card details, and Polar is never told which pages you inspect.

What we don't do

No analytics, tracking, advertising or telemetry, and no servers of our own.
We don't sell, share or transfer data about you, except as needed for payments above.
We don't use data for creditworthiness or lending, or for any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose.
The extension loads no code from the internet; everything it runs ships inside it.

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Deleting your data

Removing the extension deletes everything it stored on your computer. To cancel Pro, click Pro ✓ in the popup to open Polar's customer portal. To have Polar's record of your purchase deleted, or to ask us anything about your data, email support@whitehatharbor.com.
